OK, so I've had a couple people reach out to me recently with the "How did you get started as a photographer?" question, and I really think this video is a great explanation of how people get started. It's almost my story, but my dad didn't go to Japan. He bought me my first cameras and took me on a couple of trips which solidified my want to make this my career.

For those that don't know Timothy McGurr was just on tour with John Mayer photographing the shows, the behind the scenes, and... actually it looks like becoming a pretty good friend of John Mayer's. Anyway, the thing that I think I like the most about this is that he just shot stuff that blew his hair back (ok... bad analogy, he's got really short hair so I bet it doesn't get blown around a lot) and while he's not specifically offering any advice, but the advice is this - Go shoot what you like. If you don't know how to do something research it on the internet or ask someone's opinion. Just move forward, put your stuff in an open forum so people can see what you do, and collaborate with people you think are interesting.

Anyways, he doesn't post a lot, but click through and follow Timothy McGurr (13th Witness)
