Extremely rare dhal (shield) from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.
Runjeet Singh wrote : An extremely rare dhal (shield) from a group of dhal that were produced in the 2nd part of the 19th century in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Near identical examples are signed by the maker ‘Khooshal Dhunjee & Sons, Dhalgarwada street, Ahmedabad’ and a similar example, signed in this fashion is in the collection of the @metarmsandarmor @metmuseum
What sets this example apart from others known is the four cartouche panels which portray animals and hunters in foliage. Two European men in pith helmets are shown in one scene, and in another, two Indian men in turbans.
