Backup your tumblr blog

The backup feature that tumblr has implemented in the settings makes a really shitty copy of your blog. If you want to back up your blog I highly recommend using bbolli tumblr utility. You can find it here:

Download the zip to your computer. It’s probably better if you download it straight to the desktop. Once you have it downloaded, extract the “tumblr-utils-master” from the zip and place it on the desktop.

Open the command prompt. You may need admin rights to open this. If it opens and keeps closing on you; trying opening it by typing “cmd.exe” into the run box.

Once you have the command prompt open you can start switching the folder out of the system32. To do this type in CD C:\users\yourusername\desktop\ tumblr-utils-master\

My folder is named differently I don’t know why. I probably renamed it like an idiot at some point.

Now that you’ve changed folders you can start backing up your blog. Simply type tumblrusername and press enter.

Give it time to backup your files.

When it’s done backing up your blog it will return to the folder in the command prompt.

Here is my backed up blog in the folder.

This is how your blog index will look. Everything is sorted by month/year. Unfortunately it does not save themes. But neither does tumblrs export feature and tbh I prefer this one to theirs.

This is how your blog looks when you click on a month. It’s not as glamorous as a main theme, I know, but at least your posts are all there.

And once you do the likes backup rename that folder to USERNAME-LIKES.

You can also save your LIKES (if they are being shared ONLY!) If they’re not shared go to tumblr and open your account settings and enable “sharing likes”. Return to the command prompt and type in “ tumblrusername -l

Likes are saved exactly the same way your blog is. I personally prefer to keep the blog and likes separate in different folders. That way my likes aren’t showing up as reblogged posts on my blog archive.

    Hope this helps! <3

    Great tutorial here!

    Finding a new home

My plans for now are to keep this blog going, using non-explicit images to express sibling romance (and a baby or three.)  You can keep in touch, and see any updates to my plans right here.  I figure about 20% of my posts will survive the Great PornPocalypse on Dec. 17.

However, many of us are looking for a venue for more explicit images.  I’m hoping our community will coalesce on one site so we don’t have to juggle multiple social media sites.  I’m going to list a few possibilities that have been mentioned.  Let’s use the tag #TumblrExodus when posting our plans to help us all keep track of each other.  I’m going to post a poll in a few days.

Here are some possibilities in no particular order (please leave a note if you know of others):

  • Mastodon is a decentralized federation of sites with no central control, somewhat similar to Tumblr.  Adult content is welcome as long as it’s posted with a Content Warning.  I’ve made accounts on Quay and Kinkyelephant.
  • Pillowfort is a new site in closed beta that has reached out to us.  You can get a registration key by sending $5 to their kickstarter.
  • @honedperfection is working with developers on a new site for us.  Further details TBA, you might want to follow him to get more news on this option.
  • is an artists community that apparently can host #nsfw content.  @rydersstories is there.
  • is for adult content, however you need to have rights to anything you post.
  • Some like @houseofsigal4  have migrated to Wordpress.  Heres a guide for how migrate your blog.
  • Some of you are going to Twitter
  • is a porn sharing site.  Doesn’t seem to support captioning without using image editing software Two of our folks are there.
  • Imagefap is another porn sharing site, again no text captions without editing the image.
  • There’s apparently a “refugees of tumblr” group on Fetlife.
  • Is anybody else a Literotica author like @daddyloveshisbabygirlme?
  • Know of other possibilities?  Put them in the comments so I can add them to my poll.
  • Don’t forget to use the gridllr web app to download your likes (best on a pc or mac, not your phone.)  You can also export your blog to your hard drive using these instructions.

I’d be remiss without thanking all those who followed me, a firm handshake for those who liked my posts, hugs for all the reblogs, a big hug and kiss for those who left me a note, and *special big brother kisses* for those who roleplayed with me.  Let’s all keep in touch!

    Please reblog!

    December 17th - a rescue plan

Some good news, I’ve been talking to two developers now and got them working together, we just had a meeting with the guys behind an existing large (millions of users) site similar to Tumblr, with a vibrant and open-minded community, and more importantly, it has open-minded owners who believe in free speech. They think we can get something done here to rescue the whole community.

I’m not allowed to reveal the site name yet. I can tell you it’s mainstream, open to everyone, open-minded and welcoming. (It’s not WordPress or any site owned by Facebook or Twitter. It’s not Pillowfort, that’s in closed beta. It’s not Ello, that’s mainly for artists. It’s not kinkspace or fetlife, those are too specialist. It’s not jux, that seems to be closed. It’s not Soup, that seems still in development and too small.)

One of the reasons for delaying the announcement for next few days is they don’t want a “land grab” where people take the names of current popular Tumblr users over there (cyber squatting). So they are looking at ways for existing Tumblr users to keep the same names on the new site.

More info over the days to come.

    The plan is, broadly:

    1. By December 9th, announcement of the new site and how to secure your username there

    2. By December 10th, an online tool for bloggers to copy their existing content to the new site automatically, with the same tags and captions.

    3. Bloggers will need to copy their content across between December 10th and December 17th if they want to use the automatic tool.

    4. My understanding is that after December 17th there will be no public access to any “flagged” posts on Tumblr, but the original poster will still be able to see the flagged post (for a short time at least). Therefore, the original poster may still be able to manually download a post to their own PC or phone, after December 17th, and manually upload it to the other site. But if you have lots of posts that will take a long time, it will be better to use the automatic tool before December 17th.

Please understand that these dates are approximate and may change for technical or other reasons.

There may be a few rough edges or not so perfect looking site design on the transfer tool. Everyone is doing their best. The main goal here is to help as many people as possible preserve access to their content, in the short space of time Tumblr has allowed us, and preserve as much as possible of the Tumblr community spirit somewhere new.

The new site will cater for photo, GIF, text and html posts. It will not offer video and audio posts, due to cost reasons - maybe in future, but for now you will need to preserve video and audio content yourself in some other place.

If your Tumblr blog has a mixture of original content and reblogs, or all reblogs, all of that can be copied over to the new site. Reblogs will become “your” original content if nobody else posted them yet, otherwise they will be shown as reblogs. The devs are looking at ways to preserve attribution of reblogs back to the original Tumblr poster, if that person also moves to the new site.

Important: your Likes cannot be copied from Tumblr to the new site. You will have to go find the same posts again on the new site, and like them afresh.

(Similarly, existing reblog comments, asks, messages and other user interaction on Tumblr cannot be copied to the new site - that’s just too much to do, in the short time available.)

If you want to preserve any of your existing Liked posts on Tumblr, you will need to either: (1) download the post to your own PC, or: (2A) reblog it now to your own Tumblr blog, and then (2B) use the automatic tool, before December 17th, to move your whole Tumblr blog across to the new site.

If you have Liked a lot of posts here on Tumblr, the webapp should be able to help you do steps 1 and 2A quickly, I mean download or reblog.

(Someone complained to me today about the appearance of Gridllr on a phone. It’s best to use Gridllr on a PC, Mac or Tablet with a large screen.)

If you have liked a post here on Tumblr and the original poster decides to delete it, or even to delete their entire blog, some time before December 17th, then that post will be permanently lost. So if you want to be sure to preserve any of your Liked posts, you should best download or reblog as soon as possible. If it’s reblogged to your own blog it is safe from deletion, at least for next few days.

Obviously, you will lose access, after December 17th, to all past posts you have liked, if Tumblr has flagged them as NSFW. Again, the steps (1), or (2A) and (2B) covered above will be the only way to hold on to these posts.

Tumblr Banning All Adult Content Starting December 17

Tumblr has updated their terms of service and will be banning all adult blogs starting December 17. That means this blog and all associated blogs will be disabled and removed from public access soon.

Obviously, I’m quite disappointed by this and the resulting loss of over 6 years of work building and maintaining this blog and its community. I will try to set up a mirror of the Anal Only Lifestyle blog in the coming weeks, but I expect that the porn blogs may be gone for good just due to the costs of hosting large amounts of image/video content.

How Can I Stay Connected to the Anal Only Lifestyle Community?

Fortunately, we’re far more than just these blogs! Our community is centralized at the Anal Only Lifestyle Forum and Discord server. Please join and bookmark these links in order to stay connected with this community and follow our next steps as we continue to build and grow the anal only community. In addition to discussion and realtime chat, the Discord server also has porn sharing sections.

You can also find us on Twitter and Reddit.

What Can I Do About My Own Blog?

Tumblr lets you back up and download your blog. Go to your Blog Settings page for the blog in question, scroll to the bottom, click the Export button at the bottom, and wait for an email that notifies you it’s ready to be downloaded. If it’s a big blog, it might be a very large file—this blog was 25 GB!

    Alternatives to Tumblr

This list will be updated as I find more alternatives. Please feel free to share any others with me.

  • Twitter
This is an obvious alternative, and while it’s not the same as Tumblr, it has some similarities and can reach a wide audience. It does not have a built-in posting queue, though some third party tools may support that.
  • Reddit
If you have a community, setting up a subreddit is an easy way to establish a public forum for it. Individual users can post content to their profile pages as well, though it lacks advanced features like a queue.
  • Fetlife
A community for various adult/fetish topics and subcommunities. More of a Facebook-of-kink than a porn sharing platform.
  • Discord
This is a realtime chat platform that allows you to set up your own server with different channels, with web, desktop, and mobile app support. Another great option for establishing a central community location. Allows the sharing of media as well as all sorts of other options.
  • bdsmlr
This is a Tumblr clone explicitly created for adult content. It seems to still be in the early stages and is a bit clunky still, but has potential. It also lacks in users, currently, but I’m sure that will change before long!
This is another Tumblr-like service in early development. At the time of this post it is offline and undergoing security updates, but keep checking in to see how it progresses.
  • Sharesome
An adult platform for posting and sharing content. This has some Tumblr-like features, allowing the reposting of content, addition of your own comments and captions, and curation of custom topics. Doesn’t appear to support queueing.
  • Swarmr
A Tumblr clone that allows NSFW content and supports multiple blogs per account. There aren’t a great deal of options yet, and it doesn’t seem to have much content, but that could change quickly if people join.
  • Humblr
A Mastodon instance for porn sharing.
  • Minds
A blockchain/crypto-based platform that allows posting and tagging adult content. Seems to have issues with searching adult tags, however, and doesn’t have a queue.
  • Your own self-hosted website
This is one of the safest options, though lacks the surrounding community to help with growth that a service like Tumblr has, so you’ll need to have somewhat of an established community already to migrate to your own platform, but it can be a great option to create a central hub for your followers and community members to base out of.
