there’s something about living life deliberately…wearing clothes that you actually want to and that you feel reflect you and your style not just because you’ve had them for years and don’t know what else you would throw on….listening to songs and creating playlists that excite you and represent your actual mood not just listening to songs that you’ve had downloaded for years that don’t make you feel anything special anymore…it’s VERY easy to stay with what you’re comfortable and it might take a bit of experimenting before you find what feels like a deliberate choice that reflects more of YOU but it’s absolutely worth the leap of faith you may have to convince yourself to make in order to stop feeling like a passenger in your own life

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Valentine’s Day is a day for love. Not strictly a day for couples. You can celebrate love without having a partner, because romantic love isn’t the only love that exists. You can have love for your family, for your friends, for your pets, for yourself. For whatever you want, honestly. I had been dreading the holiday because I didn’t have anyone to spend it with until I realized it was still a day I could participate in. It’s not exclusive to anyone. In fact, I plan on using it to be extra kind to myself, since sometimes I’m not. I’m going to practice self love on Valentine’s Day to make up for the times I haven’t. I am the most consistent thing in my life. My body does what it can to keep me alive. I deserve to treat it well. I deserve love, too, whether I’m in a relationship or not. I want some flowers, so I’ll be getting some. I want some hibachi, so I’ll be getting some. I want a nice bubble bath, so I’ll be taking one. You don’t have to be “in love” with someone else to celebrate; you can use it as an opportunity to show love to yourself.

~Be a Flamingo in a flock of Pigeons���and you’ll fit right in!~

I disliked the expression��‘be a flamingo in a flock of pigeons’ as a means to encourage people to be ‘unique’ and stand out.  Personally I think it’s quite insulting to pigeons, and shows that the average person hasn’t had a proper look at a pigeon, or don’t know that fancy and exotic pigeon/dove breeds exist.  Species like the Bleeding Heart, the Victoria Crown and Jambu Fruit dove are all gorgeous and flamboyant examples of the Columbidae species, and easy challengers to the flamingo. 

So I wanted to do a quick little drawing just showing off some of these lovely birds…and a smug flamingo ;)
